Retail Therapy: How I Shop

In my element at the outlets

In my element at the outlets

I would easily classify myself as a passionate shopper. Although, I don’t know if that is one of the accolades that me-or my wallet are most proud of.  I once admittedly dragged my friend through the Forever 21 Times Square for hours while I searched for a pastel knit I saw in a YouTube video that turned out to no longer be manufactured.  I like to take the reigns when it comes to scouring for a specific item that I have my mind set on. For this reason, I used to be terrified of online shopping. What if it doesn’t fit? What if something comes already torn or stained? And the dreaded consideration- what’s the return policy? All of these thoughts running through my head were enough to deter me from hitting ‘add to cart’ on more than one occasion. But as we have grown closer and closer to a fully digital lifestyle I have found myself less inclined to want to pour through racks of not-so-carefully curated items. There are obviously exceptions to my “rule” but as of late, I often trade physical clothing racks for mindless Instagram scrolling. Some of my favorite pieces I’ve found through influencers or bloggers earning their coin through affiliate and “swipe-up” links.  I also keep track of the websites that routinely have sales so there’s never a need to pay full price on that branded t-shirt that will be 40% off next month.  On the other hand, there are just some things I can’t bring myself to online-shop for. I have taken many a trip to Simon Premium Outlets to score deals on designer duds that lots of people wouldn’t bother to white-knuckle the Saturday traffic to get to. Furthermore, I rarely want my strawberries to be delivered to me when I can pick the best of the patch at Whole Foods and sleep easy knowing this to be a fact.

One of my favorite things about the age of options we currently live in is the ability to seek out new and innovative products easier than ever. I smugly pride myself on being one of the first of my friends to own a Popsocket, and I still depend on that little selfie stand to keep my phone glass shatter-free. Lately I have been obsessed with anything that will make my life easier- like taming my mane with the Revlon Blowdryer Brush. While reading Real Simple Magazine the other day I came across a three-in-one makeup brush that has the potential to revolutionize my travel-glam game. It is evident that today when it comes to shopping, the world, or internet-really is your oyster- as long as you’re willing to pay almost any price.
